Mr N H Jenkins - Profile
I am originally from Cardiff and graduated from the Welsh National School of Medicine in 1980 after having also gained a First Class Honours Degree in Anatomy in 1977. I initially trained as an Orthopaedic Surgeon and was awarded a Master of Surgery Degree in 1989 for research into wrist fractures. I was also awarded the Robert Jones Gold Medal and Prize by the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) for this work, the first time that the prize had come to the Principality. I subsequently trained in Emergency Medicine and was appointed Consultant at Nevill Hall hospital, Abergavenny in 1991.I am the Lead Clinical Director for Accident and Emergency Services for the Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust, this managerial role covering the Accident and Emergency Departments of Nevill Hall Hospital, the Royal Gwent Hospital, Caerphilly District Miners Hospital as well as numerous minor Accident Departments. I am Honorary Secretary of the Training Standards Committee of the College of Emergency Medicine and I Chaired the Welsh Region's Specialty training Committee for Emergency medicine for 3 years 2004-07.
Outside work I enjoy time with Marianne and our 5 teenage daughters, being in Greece, water ski-ing, training in the gym and trying to control my Boxer dogs.
